Our Client the African Export – Import Bank AFREXIMBANK is looking to recruit an Associate, Banking Operations (Payment Services). The role of the position holder will be to provide back-office operations support for the Bank's lending activities with a focus on transaction execution and payment services. The job holder assists in the development of policies and procedures for this function.
Responsibilities
- Transactional Account Management:
- Support client deposit and transactional account opening, management, and maintenance processes within Banking Operations, working in close conjunction with Loan Administration units.
- Ensure appropriate and up-to-date client due diligence is in place prior to the opening of all client accounts and on an ongoing basis through establishing effective coordination with Compliance (COMP) and the origination departments.
- Ensure appropriate records are in place to support the accounts opening and ongoing payments processing, including account opening forms, signature mandates and email indemnity forms as required.
- Ensure processing is in line with written processes and procedures for the payments unit.
- Maintenance of SWIFT Relationship Management Applications (RMAs):
- Support the process of setting up and maintaining RMAs with counterparty and client banks, ensuring that appropriate and up-to-date due diligence is in place.
- Payments and Transactions Processing:
- Support the efficient operations of the Loan Administration and Trade Services with responsibility for payment transactions execution within Banking Operations, through executing facility-related outward and inward payments.
- Responsible for timely and accurate execution of fee and interest collection, maintenance of interest rates, and other static information on transaction processing systems.
- Interact with other functions where required for additional information, clarification, approval, or escalation.
- Adhere to SLAs as part of transaction execution.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Attitude
- Bachelor’s degree and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, or another relevant field from a recognized University is a must.
- A professional qualification in Banking will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience of at least 3 years with a reputable banking organization in credit administration, trade finance processes, and back office operations. The candidate must demonstrate experience and knowledge of managing back-office operations and credit control in a fairly complex banking environment.
- Ability to operate in a culturally diverse and change-oriented setting.
- Liaises with customers daily and coordinates with counterparts across Afreximbank as necessary, acting as a first point of contact for routine queries.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage (French, Arabic, and Portuguese).
- A good understanding of systems, policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
