Associate, Credit (Financial Institutions and Sovereigns)

Our Client the African Export-Import Bank AFREXIMBANK is looking to recruit for an Associate, Credit (Financial Institutions and Sovereigns) within the Trade Finance department in Cairo, Egypt.

The role of the position holder will be to support the business development team by managing the entire credit review process, including the consistent application of the Bank’s risk management guidelines through the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers, with the goal of minimizing bad loans, particularly for the Bank’s structured trade finance and asset-based finance portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • Loading of customer Financials on Optimist Grading System and updating the financials bi-annually/ at time of annual review.
  • Assist in the department's periodic reporting requirements by collating information from team members and providing it in the required format in a timely manner.
  • Assist the credit officers in the preparation of the credit memos.
  • Prepare credit memos within-depth credit analysis.
  • Provide support on some of the Bank’s products such as Trade Finance Intermediaries and Afreximbank Trade Facilitation Program.
  • Provide support to Managers and Senior Managers.
  • To support the Dept in the periodic review of the Bank’s loan portfolio in line with the requirements of the Bank’s credit policies and procedures.
  • Periodic review of the performance of obligors to which the Bank has an exposure, including borrowers and guarantors.
  • Prepare regular reports for the Department as may be required; and
  • Any other duties may be assigned by senior management.

 

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Attitude

  • Bachelor’s degree and a post-graduate degree in Banking, Finance, or related subject from a recognized University are a must and a Recognized professional certification in a relevant field. 
  • Sound experience of at least 4 years with a leading organization and familiarity with the Bank’s major business development channels in trade finance, project finance, export development, asset financing, and syndications.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of lending to financial institutions and corporates as well as structured trade finance and asset-based finance transactions including the structured trade finance operating model as a basis for the mitigation of identified risks in potential business transactions.
  • Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change-oriented setting and therefore knowledge of the workings of the main segments of the trade finance markets and the participants in major regions of Africa.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English or French. Knowledge of the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and to work long hours were required to achieve the Bank's objectives.
