Associate, Treasury (Back Office)

Our Client the African Export-Import Bank AFREXIMBANK is looking to recruit for an Associate, Treasury (Back Office) in Cairo, Egypt.

The role is to help the Bank to achieve its mission “stimulating a consistent expansion of and diversification of African trade so as to rapidly increase Africa’s share of global trade, while operating as a first-class, profit-oriented, socially responsible financial institution and a Centre of excellence in African trade matters”. Reporting to the Treasurer, the candidate is mainly responsible for treasury operational back office in order to ensure that treasury responsibilities are delivered in an effective and efficient manner.

Nature and Scope:

The role of the position holder will be providing assistance for back-office operations transaction while taking charge of transactions input into the Treasury Management System, maintaining up-to-date records of treasury transactions. Failure to provide the above services effectively will result in, delays and loss of documentation that is required to maintain the framework for the Bank.

Responsibilities

a- Transaction Planning, Processing, and Settlement

  • Prepare swift confirmations for all deals done in Treasury as soon as the deal is completed (Borrowings, Investments, and Derivatives).
  • Ensure that all treasury investments (Money market placements, and others) settlement amounts are paid (upon investment value date) and received (upon maturity date).
  • Liaise with Treasury Front Office to ensure that appropriate action is taken on placements in line with liquidity objectives i.e. (Liquidation/Roll-overs).
  • Carry out settlement action for all maturing obligations in the Treasury system. This involves confirming all deals with counterparty payment notices before paying any amounts, following up on rate sets with lenders and updating rate sets for any deals that need repricing in the system, and advising of any customization that may be required for deals which have discrepancies.
  • Maintain the treasury fool-proof diary for all due obligations. This involves downloading the daily settlement diary from the system (Ambit Quantum) and reconciling all deals in the system with original counterparties’ deal confirmations and other relevant source documents.
  • Ensure that processes and procedures for all treasury transactions processing flows are up to date.

b- Treasury Bank Accounts Management

  • Treasury-related payment processing i.e. funding between banks between Nostros.
  • Prepare and maintain various schedules required for day-to-day treasury back-office activities reports i.e. statistical data of treasury back-office activities.
  • Champion the monitoring of cash flows for all branch nostros ensuring that these are funded at all times.
  • Produce a monthly cash flow report for the Treasurer and the RCOO’s consumption of branch nostros cash flows.

c- Treasury Sub-Ledger Management

  • Responsible for the month-end sub-ledger closing activities. This includes reconciliation of the treasury sub-ledger account balances and reporting.
  • Complete the month-end sub-ledger closing attestation report for the Treasurer’s sign-off.
  • Ensure that the Fees for all facilities are paid on time and recorded in the fees register which is maintained manually.

d- Treasury Investigations and Reporting

  • Manage the treasury transaction queries and investigations.
  • Review of daily swift messages received from counterparties for treasury relevance, and directing to specific members of the team for action.
  • Make transaction queries to all counterparty banks by SWIFT, e-mails, etc…
  • Update treasury team on all obligations due to settle in the week to come and those settled in the preceding week.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Attitude

  • Bachelor’s degree and a post-graduate degree in Banking, Finance, or related subject from a recognized University.
  • A professional qualification is a must like Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or Diploma in Treasury (AMCT).
  • Sound experience of at least 3 years in Treasury.
  • Good knowledge of SWIFT application and Treasury Management System.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French. Knowledge of the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage (Arabic and Portuguese);
  • Good team spirit.
  • The candidate must demonstrate experience and knowledge of managing back-office operations.
  • Ability to operate in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting;
  • A good understanding of systems, policies, procedures, and industry best practice;
  • Mentors, motivates, and coordinates junior resources in own area, including providing technical guidance and supervising their daily activities.

Contract type – Permanent
